As a leader managing in HIT, you need to understand what it takes to be innovative. Innovation is the key to a successful leader within the field of IT, as the upheaval of evolution is dominating. In order to be successful, you simply cannot be running the operation of your department from a distance, but instead, you need to dedicate yourself to promote your leadership abilities within the department in order to strive on the business end of the application.
It is also imperative you educate yourself on the informatics language to perform and translate business owner workflow into application automation. As data has become more digital and larger attack surfaces have appeared, hackers have changed their overall opinions on healthcare and have now deemed patient health information very valuable. Therefore, it is extremely important to understand cybersecurity technology within its fullest capacity, so that you may better execute strategies to protect patient health information and your organization as a whole. As the IT leader, you need to understand cybersecurity and how to adopt security concepts on behalf of your organization and end users.
The new managing expectations of customers will require IT Leaders to provide multiple services. To name a few, those services include application services, storage and hosting. Upgrades will be continuous and instantly available for all customers of such services.
IT leaders need to have a main focus in developing governance within the organization to bring department heads together to understand the organizations applications and to gain accountability to assist in running things more smoothly and effectively. Accountability needs to be taken for the regulatory compliance requirements so that any external factors causing a delay of a project will not be seen as a failed execution on behalf of the IT Department.
Healthcare and IT management has changed dramatically and will continue to evolve in the new digital age of healthcare. You need to ask yourself if you’re ready for change and the evolving role change of the IT Leader. You will be leading the new digital age of healthcare.
