NCSBN Unveils New Nursys Authorization to Practice Map

Map provides an easy means of determining states where a nurse can practice

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) has unveiled their brand-new, interactive Nursys Authorization to Practice Map, allowing users to determine a nurse’s eligibility to practice in different states with just a few clicks.

The system is powered by licensure data providing by the boards and various agencies of participating states. The map updates automatically in real time, as states consistently update their own data.

The resource is able to be utilized by nurses, employers, and the public alike. It will be especially useful for those with questions about multistate license privileges, based on the recent implementation of the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact. Detailed instructions on how to search by a nurse’s Name, License Number or NCSBN ID are available here.

“It took a year in the making, with many discussions with executives at the boards of nursing providing essential feedback for its development,” said Nur Rajwany, MS, NCSBN chief information officer. “The boards of nursing and NCSBN staff worked diligently to develop this technology, which makes it easier for nurses, employers and the public to better understand where a nurse in the U.S. holds practice privileges.”
