Telehealth Gaining Traction Among Consumers

New statistics show that telehealth is growing in acceptance among consumers.

Increasingly, healthcare consumers are willing to receive diagnoses from their physician via video or the telephone, according to a report by American Well. The report cites data from case studies and surveys conducted online within the United States by Harris Poll on behalf of American Well. The following statistics are based on data form both surveys polling 2,100 adults in from Aug. 19 to Aug. 23, 2016.

• Sixty-six percent of Americans are willing to see a physician over video.
• Seventy-two percent of parents with children under 18 years are willing to see a physician via video.
• Fifty-three percent of Americans over the age of 65 years are willing to see a physician over video.
• Around 69% of Americans believe that video conferencing leads physicians to make more accurate diagnoses, compared to 26% of Americans who believe the same about diagnoses via the telephone.
• Only 5 percent believe diagnoses via email are accurate.
